Ranting for Utopia
We cling to atrocities because they are familiar. We, as a society, feel comfortable knowing that people are suffering, wars are raging, and destruction is rampant. How else can we explain the horrible events that take place each and every second you take in a breath? You should be ashamed at the fact that you—yes you—revel in the horrible things that hypothetically could happen at any moment. Humanity fears a utopia not because it would be wonderful, but because it would bring about change. Change that our leaders fear for the possibility they will not be the ones leading a new world.
The world has no idea what to do with peace and love. Competition brings with it prosperity and a false sense of security. However, after a while, without competition things begin to unravel. Without a tangible foe, we lack the motivation to strive to our full potential. Take for instance the Cold War. Russia and communism were a threat to the American way of life. Only then where both nations compelled to out do one another for supremacy of the world. The Cold War inspired hundreds of millions to better themselves bringing about space exploration, advances in science, and countless technological advances to ensure their political system was supreme. America ended up outlasting Russia, but for how long? Without our enemy, we have slowly become a stagnant nation with no real purpose other than to exist.
Our nation was battling the great depression between the years of 1929–1939. World War II and only World War brought the country out of economic depression. Building weapons and other material goods, for warfare, turned out to be a great way to spur a dying economy. Ever since our country has proven to be an excellent manufacturer of war goods. Our defense budget is stupendous. It boggles the mind as to how much our country devotes to defense research. The United States relies on the need for war. We need to instill fears into our allies that a real enemy exists out there that can threaten our way of life. Therefore, our beloved government doctored Al-Qaeda. Go ahead and research if Al-Qaeda actually exists. You will soon find out it is no more real than Mickey Mouse. Creating fear guarantees that U.S. companies can sell weapons to other nations generating a much-needed profit.
All in all, do not expect change to arrive as swiftly as one would hope. Hatred and chaos are still vital to our way of life. We understand hate; we feel comfortable with evil. Slowly these necessities will be removed as society realizes that we are all alike and we need hope, not hate, to conquer the immense problems laid before us. Do not despair for that is an emotion of the past, and we are the future.
