One Nation, One Hypocrisy

One Nation, One Hypocrisy

I type before you as one man. One man with only words to reiterate the hypocrisy our politicians laid out like the scoundrels they are. Our leaders speak of noble intent; yet, they pillage our dreams in the blanket of night. They speak of bailouts of $700 billion, which matriculate into an eternally inflating pit of $8.5 trillion—with a stimulus package to follow. This bailout (with no oversight) is given to those who deserve a cozy cell and an hour of outdoor activities each day.

There will be a tipping point; the masses can only be goaded for so long. How long will the masses be complacent? We sit and watch half of the country’s GDP get tossed back to the very monsters that created our problems, with nothing more than a slap on their wrists. Not to mention, the oversight for the bailout project is being blocked by at least one republican in the senate. A sizable chunk of these funds will be swept under the rug, never to return. Keep in mind these atrocities have just taken place in the last few months. The history of corruption is viral and has infected every facet of our government.

What will it take for a true change in our government? Rebellion. Since history is said to repeat itself, I found some apparent consistencies between the current United States and an infamous, past coup d’état.

 French Revolution (c. 1789–1799)

The French Revolution is thought as the triumph of reason over superstition and privilege. Hopefully, the United States, with the help of President-elect Barack Obama, can usher in a new era of enlightenment as the French once did. Revolutions are complex, but a there was a couple main contributing factors to spark this rebellion. For one, class war was raging among the French. The Ancien Régime, or the “Old Order”, was the social remnants of the French monarchy still lingering since the middle ages. The Ancien Régime resembled a feudal system, which contained a serf class at the bottom of society.

America is currently fighting its own class battle between the monarchy (i.e., CEOs and politicians) and peasants (lower and middle classes). It is crystal clear those currently in power use the American people as nothing more than their cattle. As time moves on, why do we revert back to a cyclical pattern? We need to break history and rise above those who who are tainting humanity’s goals.

“Another cause (of the French Revolution) was the fact that Louis XV fought many wars, bringing France to the verge of bankruptcy, and Louis XVI supported the colonists during the American Revolution, exacerbating the precarious financial condition of the government. The national debt amounted to almost 2 billion livres.” [1] Also, the stress of war plunged the country into famine, and pestilence spread throughout the countryside. Currently, an estimated one billion world-wide are hungry, as well as many Americans. That number grows as each day passes.

The above quoted text has an eerie ring to it. Where have I seen this before? Oh, that’s right. This is the world we live in now. The next four years should be extremely interesting. The fabric of society—I feel—is being stretched in far too many directions at once. Hopefully, this new administration has someone that has opened a history text book once or twice.
