Homeless Guy Gets 15 Years For Stealing $100
Today we have a great example of how flawed our justice system is. In a world where paying for an expensive lawyer who knows the judge and/or prosecutor can mean the difference between jailtime or probation, most people already know that our court system needs some major improving but sadly everyone also knows that this change most likely won’t ever happen.
Today’s example displays two recent but different court cases with drastically different outcomes.
The first example shows the CEO of a mortgage company that swindled almost $3 billion illegally. He was caught and sentenced to 40 months in jail for his crimes. On the surface there is nothing wrong with this case. The man was clearly caught, and in the end was sentenced to just a bit under what prosecutors were hoping for. The travesty comes with our other example.
A few weeks ago, a 54 year old homeless man, desperate for food and to enter a detox center, walked into a bank and demanded money from the cashier. Using his hands under his jacket, he claimed that he had a gun.
The cashier handed the man a stack of $100 bills. The homeless man proceeded to take only 1 of the bills, and returned the rest to the cashier. He stated that he was hungry and didn’t want to take more then he needed. He wanted to go to a detox center but it cost money he didn’t have.
The next day, feeling guilty, the man turned himself into police and admitted to taking the $100. Police instantly arrested the man and he was tried for 1st degree robbery.
The asshole judge then proceeded to sentence the man to 15 years in jail for stealing the $100.
Isn’t the justice system great?
