Pictures like these really make me think about my place in the universe. Stop and take a second to imagine the magnitude of what you are witnessing in this photo. Two galaxies are in a gravitational ballet spanning hundreds of millions of years to complete the merger. The stars within each galaxy are so incredibly spaced apart; collisions between them rarely occur. In fact, our galaxy, The Milky Way, is on its own doomsday path with the Andromeda Galaxy. You can let out a deep sigh because this merger will happen in approximately three billion years from now.
