A Look Into Domestic FBI Investigative Tactics
nytimes.com just posted an awesome article regarding domestic FBI surveillance practices. Scott Crow was investigated for three years straight by the counter terrorism team from the FBI who conducted some intense surveillance on Scott and his practices.
Through a Freedom Of Information Act request, Scott was able to get a highly censored copy of his 440 page FBI file and shared it with the NY Times.
Some Highlights
-agents traced the license plates of anyone that came to his house
-agents kept an eye on his home for hours at a time from their car, and attached a video camera to a telephone pole
-they tracked his phone calls and emails, sorted his trash, and subpoenaed his mortgage and bank companies.
-they asked the IRS to inspect his tax returns but were told that due to his low $32,000 salary, a jury would not be impressed even if there was problems with the returns.
-had undercover agents attend meetings and events that Scott put on.
Some real interesting stuff. It also talks about one of his past demonstrations with Greenpeace, where Scott and his team burst into the headquarters of Exxon Mobil and started demonstrating dressed in Tiger costumes. They also had multiple people disguised in suites arrive via chauffeured Jaguars, causing the police to have trouble identifying the demonstrators from the executives.
